Dead Space 2

PRICE = $10-30
PLAYERS = 1 to 2

HOW DOES THE GAME LIVE UP TO IT'S EXPLANATION/BOX ART? (9/10)

the cover - Well after playing the first Dead Space, I already know what i am in store for. But the cover of this game doesn't really give the 'new gamer' any idea of what to expect.

the back - But here's where it tells you what's going on. Isaac Clarke (the same character from the first game) awakes from a coma and like the movie series ALIENS, the government is trying to 'hush hush' what he went through. But, there is a new outbreak going on and Isaac is having a hard time remembering anything at all.

Oh yeah, dismemberment is still your only means of survival.

HOW IS THE GAME PLAY? (10/10)

Now as most sequels go... they always try to add some new elements into the game that change the experience of the first game and annoy the crap out of you.. This time? It is not the case in the least. The only new things in this game is some system hack stuff which doesn't effect the game at all, and a few new styles of weaponry that just add new ways of blowing monsters to pieces.

I played through this game twice so far and I've had no glitch problems, no save problems, or any other sort of problems. If you loved the first one - You will love this one.

HOW DOES THE GAME LIVE UP TO IT'S GENRE? (10/10)

Like i said about the first game. If you love the newer Resident Evil game play style, you will love this game. It picked up 3 years after the last game and you get tossed straight back into the mayhem. I enjoyed this game so much i played straight through it in almost one sitting the first time. And straight through it again in one sitting.

I throughly enjoy the horror genre videogames and i love them even more when there is no control problems.

THE 'GAME OVER' ALL? (97%)

There's not too much you can get out of old light gun games except a little nostalgia, but if I was in the mood to just blow away my old scores or my friends, i could probably play this game for quite a long period of time.
I loved playing all these light gun games as a child, and i still enjoyed it now, but the lack of more scenes kind of knocked me into a bored state pretty fast.
Though if i had someone else at the house playing it with me, i know i would have had a lot more fun sitting down with this game.

HOW DOES THE GAME LIVE UP TO IT'S EXPLANATION/BOX ART? (8/10)

the cover - Dismemberment is the first thing that comes to mind. And Well, that's pretty much the main part of destroying beasts in this game.

the back - Speaks of a space station destroyed and a group of people are going in to try and find out if anyone is still alive. Well everyone has been overcome with a very strange disease that turns them into some strange infected zombified bug people. The only way to kill them? Dismember them.

HOW IS THE GAME PLAY? (9/10)

I wasn't really ready for a 3rd person shooter to be honest. I figured this would just be another First person shooter without any real inclusion of interesting ways of game play. But, here i am involved in a 3rd person shooter slightly moved to the left side. Which seemed really strange when i first started playing, but once the information screens and other such devices attached to my suit started functioning, i was extremely surprised.

This game plays kinda like a new age Resident Evil, but with all kinds of new innovative ideas. Everything they created for the style of this game works perfectly. But occasionally you use a few save points that cause you to be locked out of the game. I am not 100 percent sure these haven't been fixed with some new downloads. But, if you aren't online be careful, check the inter-web, and make sure you aren't using a save point that is gonna make you start over.

And honestly, if you play on playing for a long time, this game has instant respawn points. So if you don't plan on taking a break for a long time. It really doesn't matter if you save or not. You'll respawn at your last check point.

HOW DOES THE GAME LIVE UP TO IT'S GENRE? (10/10)

As us, 'horror fans of the videogame industry', know, there are not very many horror related videogames. Back when silent hill, resident evil, clock tower, and fatal frame were making the big bucks. We had all kinds of other gaming companies trying to jump on the band wagon. But, they were all making sub-par games that no one really liked.. or they just weren't good enough to continue with.
So.. with that said.. Dead Space is an awesome new addition to our horror video game world. From beginning to end, (and even getting screwed with bad saves and starting over) I still really enjoyed this purchase and play through.

THE 'GAME OVER' ALL? (90%)

As I said before, i wasn't really sure of what to expect from this game. But, as i also said, it surprised me with it's clever new way of game play.
From the health bar being your spinal chord to dismembering enemies any way possible with the pile of different weapon unlocks... or stomping the beasts to death. I really think if you haven't played this and like shooters or horror survival games... this needs to be on your lists of games to play.

Splatterhouse

Price = $ 20-30
Players = 1
Rated M

HOW DOES THE GAME LIVE UP TO IT'S EXPLANATION/BOX ART? (10/10)

The cover of the game pretty much just says Splatterhouse with a crazy blood spattered Mask. Which if you know anything about Splatterhouse. You will be wearing that mask throughout the game, and well blood.. that's what this game is about.

The back of the box talks of Hard-core gore, Devastating weapons, extreme horror, gruesome splatterkills, and a listing as the bloodiest game of E3. After playing this for about 5 minutes. All of these things are absolutely true.

HOW IS THE GAME PLAY? (9/10)

The game plays a lot better than i thought it would. I've played a good distance into the game so far and haven't run into any glitches or bugs. (other than the blood worms i have to stomp on) It's set up well with your usual kill lots of stuff and use what you collect from the dead to upgrade your powers. (in this game being their blood)

The only problem I have run into is during some of the obstacle scenes. You have to run passed some spike balls and pitfalls (classic game stuff) but when you miss or get hit by one of these and instantly die. The load screen to put you back takes a little bit longer than i'm used to with other games. It's not a dire wait, but it's annoying to get instant killed and have to sit for 25-30 seconds before i can try again.

on a side note : I really enjoy that you can go back and select whatever level you want to play. They are starting to do this more and more. But i really think all level oriented games should have this option in case you missed a key item or something important towards achievements.

HOW DOES THE GAME LIVE UP TO IT'S GENRE? (10/10)

It holds true to the original series. Murder, massacre, destroy, rip apart, use limbs as weapons, and so many more ways to destroy your enemies.
This game is kinda hard to tell that you are getting the hack and slash style game from the box art. But If you played the old games they were the old classic side scrolling brawler.
If you like games like God of War, (new) Ninja Gaidens, Dante's Inferno, Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. You may want to give this a shot.

THE 'GAME OVER' ALL? (97%)

I really wanted to pick this up the day it came out because i love the old series. (which is unlockable throughout the game) I was hesitant because it had been so long since one came out and usually games that have sat dormant for so long usually don't get a good relight in the new platforms. But, I'm glad I finally decided to pick this up and i'm having a blast with all the horror movie references and the hilarious conversations.
